Afghan Resource Center
The purpose of Afghan Resource Center is to guide and support those who would like to help with the reconstruction of Afghanistan. Following are links to our current online resources:
Why There is a Need
The tragedy of September 11 brought the world's attention upon Afghanistan. The war against terrorism in requires peace and stability, and thus reconstruction of Afghanistan, which in turn requires enormous financial, human and technical resources.
Afghanistan greatly depends on international assistance. After more than two decades of war, the majority of all Afghan intellectuals and professional left the country and are scattered around the world. Northern California became home to a community of about 40,000 Afghans, one of the largest in the US. This community has considerable technical and financial capacity to contribute to reconstruction and development process in Afghanistan.
In the past few months, many individuals and organizations have become involved in relief and humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan, and many more are willing to participate. We are helping coordinate these resources with our Afghan Resource Center.
Our goals include:
- Bringing together Afghan-American organizations, associations, groups and businesses under one umbrella.
- Lobbying on behalf of member organizations with Afghan and USA governments and UN.
- Acting as liason between Afghan communities in US and Afghanistan.
- Providing information about available resources in USA for Afghanistan.
- Promoting public awareness about Afghans and Afghanistan.
- Coordinating reconstruction projects to help reconstruct Afghanistan, with the goal of eventually opening an office in Afghanistan.
Visit our US Programs and Afghan Programs areas for more information on the work that we do.
