U.S. Programs > Mental Health Services
In an exciting program funded through The California Endowment, the Afghan Coalition provides both in-home and on-site mental health services using trained community mental health workers and licensed Farsi-speaking therapists. This program also includes small groups activities that promote mental health, such as support groups and parenting workshops, including the following:
Health Navigation & Advocacy
Health Navigation services are designed to help limited-English speaking clients overcome barriers to accessing healthcare for themselves, their children, or elderly parents.
Case Management
Case managers assist clients with housing, social adjustment, crises, parenting, and other issues affecting their lives. They provide a bridge to other social services located at the Fremont Resource Center and through the community.
Parent Education and Training
Parent training has taken place in various community workshops which help Afghan parents learn to talk to their children, learn appropriate methods of discipline, and deal the gap between American and Afghan cultural values, and ideas regarding child rearing.
Domestic Violence Prevention
The Coalition conducts community education about domestic violence issues, assist Afghan women who have been abused, and offers a support group for women who are trying to rebuild their lives.
Counseling
We provide counseling for individuals and families on how to adapt to US culture. Services include pre marriage counseling, youth counseling, domestic violence counseling, and couple counseling.
