Afghan Youth Video Documentary
The goal of this program is to engage Afghan-American youth in a safe environment in which they can gain self confidence and better understanding of their cultural heritage, gain new skills, and actively promote a greater understanding of Afghan culture and the wider community.
Media Art Project
Technology skills development with inspiration, knowledge, and story ideas provoided by workshops youth will engage in a media arts project to display the works of individuals, teams, and the project itself. A youth video program consultant will teach the workshops in media arts, which will allow participants to create digital exhibits of their work and gain technical skills. Their exhibit will be displayed on the Afghan Coalition website. This will be an ongoing project which allow youth to continue making documentaries about their lives and community. Thank you to SBC Global for providing funding for this project. Future funding is needed in order to continue this project.
Youth Leadership Group
Young people, ages 13-19, meet once a month at the Coalition and develop leadership skills through working on community service projects. The program links the youth with college-age Afghans who serve as role models and encourage them to plan for higher education.
Youth Tutoring and Mentorship
Older Afghan youth serve as peer tutors and mentors for younger Afghan youth, many of whom have recently arrived in the U.S. and have limited English skills. Afghan Coalition is working with the Society of Afghan Professionals on this project. See the Society of Afghan Professionals website for more information.
